Instruments and Recordings
My bouzouki (which I
treasure above any other
possession I own) is a
10-string Irish bouzouki
(often misnamed a cittern)
that was built by
Peter
Abnett in Kent, England.
The bouzouki that Peter
designed and built for me
has a slightly shorter scale
than his standard 10-string
model, and includes a 0 fret
for parking a capo, setup
for both ball and loop
strings, and a special inlay
between the
front and the fingerboard devised by Peter to protect against
possible cracking as a result of uneven pressure exerted on the
different kinds of wood caused by our brutal hot and dry summer
climate in Israel.   There are numerous tunings for the 10-string
bouzouki.  I  tune mine DADAd, CGDAd or DGDAd.
Rhythm Bones
I first encountered this ancient and fascinating
instrument in Ireland in 1996 during coffee
break from beginning bodhran class, when
Cathy Jordan (singer and bodhran player of
Dervish)  demonstrated them to us.  I then
bought myself my first set, and wandered
around  with them on the beach of Inis Mor
where I practiced until I Managed to produce
my first triplet clicks.  For lots of fun and more
information about rhythm bones, visit the
Rhythm Bones Society Website.
About My Former Band's CD and  Other Recordings
"Irish Cream", my former band, released its CD in May of 2002.  The CD feathres twelve
tracks of traditional tunes and songs, as well as original material.  Three tracks feature John
McSherry, renowned Uilleann piper from Belfast, whom we hosted in the Irish Festival of
January 2002.  Other recordings featuring me on bouzouki include
"Shepherd's
Daughter" and "The Many Colors of White" by the Israeli folk duo Ada and
Diane.
